Information Literacy Lectures

The library’s information literacy lectures primarily consist of training weeks and regular Wednesday sessions. Building on this foundation, the library further expands subject-specific lectures based on the needs of academic departments and the habits of faculty and students. The main focus of these lectures is to conduct specialized training sessions during two key periods: the “Freshman Season” and the “Thesis Proposal Season” (for both undergraduate and graduate students).

 Resource Utilization Series

1. Understanding Library Resources: Simplifying Your Academic Journey

This lecture offers a comprehensive overview of the library’s existing resources and services, and combined with typical cases from the perspective of methods and ways, the lecture provides insights into common problems often encountered in acquiring academic resources , with the goal of helping readers integrate smoothly into the research environment.

2. Retrieval and Utilization of Chinese and Foreign E-Book Databases

This lecture offers a comprehensive overview of the library’s existing resources and services, and combined with typical cases from the perspective of methods and ways, the lecture provides insights into common problems often encountered in acquiring academic resources , with the goal of helping readers integrate smoothly into the research environment.

3. Retrieval and Utilization of Open Access Resources

This lecture shares the latest developments in open access (OA) both domestically and internationally, highlighting methods for accessing and utilizing open access resources, including open books, open journals, and open data. It also introduces relevant information about open access publishing to facilitate submissions and resource utilization.

4. Efficient Use of Excel Functions: Enhance Your Data Analysis Efficiency

This workshop provides a detailed explanation of how to correctly use Excel functions for data analysis in academic research, using simple language and examples. It covers quick data input and filling techniques, text processing with text functions, problem-solving with data functions, intelligent judgments and predictions using logic functions, and the use of basic statistical analysis features.

5. Let Your Data Speak: Introduction to SPSS

This session focuses on the practical use of SPSS for statistical analysis, including methods such as multiple linear regression, cluster analysis, and principal component analysis, enabling your data to “speak.”

6. Enhancing Research Efficiency with the EndNote Reference Management Tool

EndNote not only helps researchers efficiently collect and manage literature in a standardized manner but also automatically generates reference lists during paper writing, significantly improving the quality and efficiency of academic writing. This lecture introduces the usage skills of this reference management software to boost research productivity.

7. Building Knowledge Maps and Analyzing Hotspots and Trends with CiteSpace

Taking the CNKI and WOS database platforms as examples, this lecture demonstrates the use of software like CiteSpace to visually reveal trends and developments in various disciplines and the evolution of research frontiers.

8. Utilizing Mind Maps to Spark Innovative Ideas

Can mind maps really trigger brainstorming and unleash the potential of the brain? This lecture will guide readers to rediscover mind maps, clear up cognitive misconceptions, and explore how to effectively use this tool in everyday learning and life.

 Thesis Defense Series

9. Microsoft Word Tips and Tricks: Formatting Your Graduation Thesis

This workshop teaches useful tips and tricks for using Word, with the purpose of helping students focus more on their thesis content rather than on formatting, making thesis formatting easier and more convenient.

10. Adding points to Your Thesis Defense: PowerPoint Tips and Tricks

Starting with how to create distinctive PPTs, this lecture introduces PowerPoint beautification techniques, common logical relationships, and relevant issues concerning the characteristics of thesis defense PPTs, template usage, and avoiding pitfalls. Experience sharing is also included.
